This Friday, a significant cultural event titled Biyelmawn, Identity and Cultural Connections, is set to take place, showcasing a delegation from the Souss-Massa region of Morocco, which is closely associated with Ibn Zohr University. This collaboration will also include Canarian researchers from La Laguna University's Cultural Classroom of Ethnography and the Cultural Chair of Berber Studies. The event is scheduled to commence at 5:15 PM at the historic Convent of Santo Domingo, offering a unique platform for cross-cultural dialogue and exchange.
The proceedings will be led by Ahmed Sabir, who will introduce the Biyelmawn Carnival Committee from Agadir, which is planning its carnival festivities for the week of June 15 to 22. Ricardo Fajardo will assume the role of moderator for the event, guiding the audience through a series of enlightening presentations. Following the introductory segment, there will be a series of fifteen-minute talks delivered by esteemed speakers.
In the second part of the event, Fajardo will present Canarian speakers Jonay Acosta Armas and Renata Springer Bunk, both of whom are affiliated with the Cultural Chair of Berber Studies at La Laguna University. Their insightful presentations are expected to delve into the cultural synergies between Moroccan and Canarian traditions, providing deeper understanding and appreciation of their shared heritage.
At the conclusion of these presentations, attendees will be invited to engage in a final discussion, creating an interactive environment for sharing ideas and perspectives. In addition to this enriching session, the Canarian and Moroccan committees will also participate in a Folkloric Showcase scheduled for Saturday at 7:30 PM at the Casa de la Cultura de La Esperanza. Here, the Folkloric Group of the Faculty of Education, under the direction of Manuel Lorenzo Perera, will present a vibrant performance that highlights the rich cultural tapestry of both regions.
