Exploring Cooperation: Chile and Morocco's Evolving Relationship

New Collaborations and Educational Initiatives

In a recent event, Professor Paz Milet unveiled her latest book titled "Chile-Morocco: Joint Challenges and Spaces for Cooperation," co-authored with Nadia Baline. This publication highlights the growing partnership between Chile and Morocco, emphasizing the various strategic initiatives underway. Additionally, the University of Chile has launched a revamped online program that will run from Monday to Thursday, offering classes via Zoom from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, reflecting a commitment to flexible and accessible education for students.

In a notable electoral event held on June 2, Professor Milet secured an impressive 60.93% of the votes in a competitive election, with a turnout of 64.96% among faculty members from the School of Physical and Mathematical Sciences. This victory is expected to bolster collaborative efforts between the University of Chile and its international partners, paving the way for various strategic cooperation actions.

Cultural Dialogues and International Cooperation

The recent gathering, organized by the Institute of International Studies at the University of Chile in collaboration with CAF, featured a keynote address by John Grajales, focusing on international cooperation challenges in the face of transnational organized crime. Esteemed figures including Rector Devés and Minister Pérez Mackenna were part of the opening remarks, underscoring the significance of the event.

Moreover, Professor Federico Rojas de Galarreta was recognized for his exemplary coordination of the Sur Program, which aims to explore the challenges and opportunities for regional integration in Latin America looking towards 2050. The IV Congress ACHEI, held at the VM-20 University Complex, facilitated discussions and presentations that shed light on these important topics.

During a three-month tenure at the Indian Institute of Management Ranchi, an IEI researcher engaged in teaching, research, and participated in a virtual symposium, further illustrating the international outreach of the institute. Similarly, student Nicolás Valenzuela traveled to La Paz for research on lithium development and exploitation, a critical aspect of his doctoral thesis.

Professor Milet's book presentation at the International Salon of Publishing and Book (SIEL) in Rabat highlighted the vibrant cultural exchange between Morocco and Latin America. The event, themed “Images of Morocco: Perspectives from Spain and Latin America,” gathered scholars and researchers who explored various dimensions of cultural dialogue. Professor Milet discussed the significant evolution of Morocco-Latin America relations in recent years, particularly influenced by King Mohammed VI's official visits to several countries in the region, which she noted as a turning point leading to a dynamic new phase of cooperation addressing contemporary challenges.

Moreover, she emphasized that these visits have strengthened and diversified ties into critical sectors such as energy, agribusiness, and sustainable development, with Morocco emerging as a reliable partner amidst global uncertainty. The establishment of the Mohammed VI Cultural Center for the Dialogue of Civilizations in 2007 is seen as a pivotal milestone in fostering closer ties between Morocco and Chile, promoting mutual cultural appreciation.

Additionally, historian Abdelouahed Akmir and Spanish historian Itzea Goikolea-Amiano presented on the historical relations between Spain and Morocco, further enriching the discussions at the event.
