The city of El Jadida is currently hosting the fifth high-level meeting of heads of counter-terrorism and security agencies in Africa, known as the "Marrakech Platform," which is co-chaired by the Kingdom of Morocco and the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT). This significant event spans two days and sees the participation of approximately forty African intelligence and security agencies. Additionally, around 90 delegations from the Middle East, Europe, the Americas, and Asia are attending as observers, alongside representatives from regional United Nations institutions.
This meeting is particularly crucial given the ongoing security context marked by persistent terrorist threats across the African continent, along with the evolving methods and transformations associated with such threats. This gathering is a continuation of previous sessions held in various cities, which underscores the importance of the Marrakech Platform in addressing contemporary security challenges.
The substantial interest in this year's edition of the Marrakech Platform, from both African nations and international partners, highlights the pivotal role this initiative has assumed. It has established itself as an essential forum for enhancing experience exchange, strengthening regional cooperation, and identifying capacity-building priorities in the fight against terrorism within Africa.
