Moroccan Cafés Gear Up for World Cup with Emphasis on Harmony and Public Order

Moroccan Cafés Prepare for the World Cup with a Focus on Community Respect

As the World Cup approaches, the Moroccan Association of Café and Restaurant Owners is calling on industry professionals to uphold public order and ensure a peaceful environment, particularly during the late-night matches involving the national team, the "Atlas Lions." In a recent statement following meetings with local authorities, the association highlighted the commitment of public officials to create conditions conducive to watching the World Cup matches in cafés and restaurants.

The professionals are encouraged to actively participate in the success of this global sporting event by providing the best hospitality for their patrons and maintaining organized operations during match times, including those that may occur late into the night. The emphasis is on adhering to existing laws while ensuring that the tranquility and comfort of the public are preserved, avoiding any actions that could lead to disturbances.

Ahmed Boufkrane, the national coordinator of the association, articulated the significance of the World Cup, which occurs every four years and features Morocco's national team. He noted that it is natural for citizens to want to support their team, even from the comfort of their homes, and that expressions of enthusiasm should not be suppressed. The overlap of the tournament with the summer vacation period alleviates concerns about disturbing young children or affecting their sleep schedules, as most institutions are currently on break. Thus, there are minimal genuine obstacles that might disrupt the festive atmosphere of fans celebrating after a period of stress.

Boufkrane explained that directives from local authorities were clear, emphasizing the necessity for all staff to be present and to facilitate an enjoyable viewing experience for the public. This includes service during both daytime and nighttime hours without exception, placing the responsibility of maintaining peace and public space on café owners.

Naima Reis, the head of the National Federation of Café and Restaurant Owners in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, stressed the importance of respecting neighbors and maintaining good relations. She pointed out that football matches are temporary events, while neighborly relationships are enduring. It is crucial to uphold mutual respect at all times.

Reis noted that the late-night matches are often attended by local residents, as those traveling from further away do not typically venture out at such late hours. Consequently, the audience usually consists of nearby individuals. Currently, the focus is on broadcasting the matches of Morocco's national team, particularly those scheduled post-11 PM, while foreign matches do not attract crowds during such late hours.

This approach allows for a degree of flexibility regarding the national team's late-night games, ensuring that the unique nature of the event is respected and allowing for viewers to follow the matches without causing chaos.
