Rita G. Rivera Unveils Her First Major Exhibition in Galicia

Rita G. Rivera, a talented artist hailing from Ferrol, has officially opened her first significant solo exhibition in Galicia at the Fundación Didac in Santiago de Compostela on Saturday, May 23. This remarkable showcase features 55 never-before-seen images from her project titled 'Hamartia'. The exhibition serves as a poetic narrative about her hometown, reflecting her unique approach to photography—not merely as a tool for capturing reality, but as a medium for creation that produces works akin to lyrical art.

Open until September 11, this exhibition invites visitors to explore 'an image of Ferrol that exists within our gaze, in our understanding of the territory, and most importantly, in the memory and hearts of its inhabitants.' Rivera describes 'Hamartia' as a work that navigates the themes of inner and outer worlds, interpreting the latter as the city and its history, wherein she perceives a collective redemption. She draws parallels between personal and existential exiles, as well as the exiles experienced by the territory itself.

Visitors to the exhibition will have the opportunity to curate their own journey through the space; some areas are designed for contemplation, while others promote a more transient experience. Photography is just one of the many disciplines Rivera engages with—her portfolio also includes projects in design and illustration, as seen in books like 'Contrahistorias de Galicia' and 'El Gran Sol', along with her work in ceramics, particularly highlighted by her brand Sania.

Currently residing in Morocco, Rivera operates her own art studio, and her work is represented by MCC Gallery in Marrakech.
