Tragic Collapse of Residential Building in Ain Naqbi Claims 15 Lives

The recent collapse of a residential building in the Ain Naqbi neighborhood of the Jnan El Ward district has resulted in a heartbreaking toll, with local authorities confirming 15 fatalities and 5 individuals suffering from various injuries. This tragic incident followed over 24 hours of intense search efforts by civil protection services, who tirelessly worked to uncover any potential survivors and recover the bodies of the deceased.

Upon revealing the identities of the victims, it was discovered that several were members of the same family, who tragically lost their lives just days before the celebration of Eid al-Adha. The emotional impact of this disaster was felt profoundly by residents of nearby buildings, which were evacuated due to fears of potential structural failure. Temporary accommodations were arranged in 12 apartments, providing shelter for those displaced while awaiting further solutions in accordance with royal directives to mobilize all relevant sectors in support of the survivors and affected families.

In relation to this devastating event, the Attorney General at the Fes Court of Appeals announced that a thorough and detailed judicial investigation has been initiated to uncover the causes and circumstances surrounding the collapse, as well as to determine potential responsibilities of those involved. Emphasizing the need to protect the lives of citizens, the public prosecution is committed to enforcing the law rigorously and addressing the accountability of anyone found responsible for this tragic incident. Legal actions will be pursued promptly upon the conclusion of the mandated investigations.

It is noteworthy that the Jnan El Ward district, where the Ain Naqbi neighborhood is located, has been criticized for the prevalence of illegal construction. This issue has led to the condemnation of both the district head and a staff member from the urban planning department. Meanwhile, the relevant courts in Fes are expected to begin proceedings against 21 individuals, including the head of the Zouagha district and his deputy, following the collapse of two residential buildings in the Al-Mustaqbal neighborhood, which resulted in the deaths of 22 residents.
