International Series Morocco: A Platform for Emerging Talent
The International Series stands as the premier gateway in the world of golf, featuring a collection of prestigious tournaments co-sanctioned by LIV Golf and the Asian Tour. This series not only showcases elite golfing talent but also presents the coveted Rankings Winner and Runner-Up promotion to the LIV Golf League, solidifying its reputation as a significant competitive platform.
This week, Moroccan golf star Ayoub Lguirati is set to lead a formidable local and regional contingent during the International Series Morocco, presented by Visit Morocco. The event, scheduled from June 11 to 14 in Rabat, will see emerging talents from Morocco and the broader MENA region face off against an exceptional field that boasts Major champions like Bubba Watson and Sergio Garcia, alongside LIV Golf luminaries such as Abraham Ancer and Branden Grace, as well as defending champion Scott Vincent and top competitors from the Asian Tour.
For Lguirati, this opportunity comes at an ideal moment. Recognized as one of Morocco's leading professional golfers, he made a significant mark during the inaugural International Series Morocco in 2022, where he was the only local player to make the cut, ultimately finishing tied for 28th amidst a highly competitive international lineup. Now, he returns to the tournament in peak form, having recently achieved his best-ever finish on the Asian Tour, tying for 13th place at the am green IGPL Bharath Classic held in El Jadida.
"It’s a great feeling and a real privilege; the International Series Morocco is a very special tournament for me," Lguirati expressed. "As a Moroccan player competing on the Asian Development Tour, this is the kind of opportunity I am looking for. The field is very strong, the level is high, and playing here at Royal Golf Dar Es Salam always gives me extra motivation." He emphasized the importance of the recent influx of professional tournaments in Morocco, which he believes have created significant opportunities for local players to enhance their skills and compete at a higher echelon.
Joining Lguirati in this remarkable event are six other talented Moroccan golfers who are eager to make an impact on their home turf. Notable among them is El Mehdi Fakori, who successfully made the cut at the recent am green IGPL Bharath Classic, finishing two-under-par for the tournament. Fakori's experience from participating in the 2025 International Series Morocco is expected to bolster his performance. Additionally, Ayoub Id-Omar returns after his International Series debut in 2024, where he excelled as Morocco's top performer at the am green IGPL Morocco Rising Stars, finishing tied for 31st at four-under-par.
Amateurs Hugo Trommetter and Youssef El Hali, who have represented Morocco throughout the previous two years, continue their journeys, while fellow amateurs Nizar Bourehim and Abderrahmane Fakori are set to make their International Series debuts. Bourehim arrives with the momentum of winning The Hrnčiar Championship, where Fakori also made a notable eighth-place finish.
The regional representation at the tournament extends beyond Morocco, with players like Faisal Salhab, Othman Almulla, Khalid Attieh, Shergo Al Kurdi, and Saud Al Sharif showcasing talent from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The United Arab Emirates will be represented by Ahmad Skaik, and Qatar's Daniil Sokolov, who gained attention for competing in the International Series event at just 13 years old, returns at the age of 15.
This event is part of a unique three-week professional golf series in Morocco, which began with the Asian Development Tour and transitioned through last week's Asian Tour event at Mazagan Beach & Golf Resort, where Sweden's Charlie Lindh emerged victorious. The culmination of this journey in Rabat offers both local and regional hopefuls an exceptional chance to compete alongside some of the biggest names in global golf on the prestigious stage of The International Series.
