Direct Social Support Program in Morocco: Benefiting Millions and Aiming for Justice

Overview of the Direct Social Support Program

The National Agency for Social Support in Morocco has revealed that the total funds disbursed under the Direct Social Support Program have reached an impressive 51 billion dirhams since the program's inception, with projections extending to the end of 2025. This extensive support initiative has significantly benefited around four million households, with 60% of these families residing in rural areas. According to a statement from the agency, which was shared with 'Telquel Arabic', the aid allocated for childhood risk protection accounted for a substantial 64.2% of the total disbursements, equating to approximately 32.7 billion dirhams. This support has positively impacted about 5.5 million children from 2.45 million families.

Furthermore, the agency noted that the amounts disbursed for additional financial aid reached around 18.2 billion dirhams, benefiting 1.47 million families. It is important to highlight that the supported households include nearly 1.7 million elderly individuals when considering both those receiving additional financial aid and those benefiting from monthly grants aimed at protecting children from associated risks.

Targeting Vulnerable Populations

According to cumulative data from the agency, as of the end of December 2025, the program's support is primarily focused on vulnerable groups. A striking 84% of beneficiaries belong to social strata experiencing poverty or living on limited incomes. This figure rises to 93% for families receiving childhood assistance, while 69% of households benefiting from additional financial aid also fall into these categories. Such statistics reinforce the program's role as an essential mechanism for redistribution and achieving social justice.

On a regional level, the agency reported that the geographic distribution of beneficiaries reflects demographic trends as well as poverty and social vulnerability conditions across different regions. The Marrakech-Safi region accounts for 16.1% of the total beneficiaries, followed by the Fez-Meknes region at 15.7%, and the Casablanca-Settat region at 13.7%. This concentration of aid is also linked to high levels of multidimensional poverty in certain regions, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas, indicating that the geographic distribution of beneficiaries is a direct response to demographic determinants and socio-economic factors.

In terms of performance and absorption indicators, the statement reported an increase in the application acceptance rate from 45.5% at the program's launch in December 2023 to 91.9% by the end of 2025. This trajectory suggests a rapidly increasing understanding of eligibility criteria among beneficiaries. Data indicated that nearly 61% of ineligibility cases stemmed from changes in the social and economic status of families, with 42% of rejection cases attributed to enrollment in family compensation systems under new professional circumstances, while 19% were related to exceeding economic and social thresholds.
