Engineers as Key Players in Morocco's Development: Insights from Ahmed Bouari

Engineers at the Heart of National Development

Ahmed Bouari, the president of the National Assembly of Engineers, emphasized the pivotal role that Moroccan engineers play in supporting the significant transformations taking place in the kingdom. He described engineers as strategic actors and essential partners in implementing developmental projects and enhancing the competitiveness of the national economy. This statement was made during the opening of the third national forum for engineers held in Tangier under the theme "Engineers in Service of a Rising Morocco," as part of the "Future Path" events.

Bouari highlighted that this forum represents a significant political, intellectual, and organizational milestone, reflecting the commitment of the National Rally of Independents (RNI) party to harness national talents, particularly engineers, to contribute to the ongoing developmental dynamics under the wise leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

Embracing Innovation and Overcoming Challenges

In this context, Bouari praised the political and organizational momentum within the party, driven by its leaders and members, which has strengthened its presence and attracted more national talents and expertise. This has solidified its position as a political force dedicated to a culture of work, achievement, and proximity to citizens. He pointed out that Morocco has entered a new phase characterized by accelerating development, enhancing national sovereignty, and establishing the foundations of a social state amidst rapid global economic and technological changes. He affirmed that the success of this phase requires mobilizing various national capacities and talents capable of supporting the strategic projects initiated by the kingdom.

Moroccan engineers are significantly involved in major national projects aimed at strengthening water and food security through the construction of dams, desalination plants, and irrigation networks. They also play vital roles in infrastructure projects, including highways, railways, ports, and airports, as well as in energy transition, digitization, and manufacturing initiatives. Bouari noted that the role of engineers has expanded beyond technical aspects related to design and execution; they are now essential players in shaping developmental visions, supporting public policies, and proposing innovative solutions to address economic, social, and environmental challenges.

The National Assembly of Engineers is committed to a role that transcends professional structuring and advocacy for the sector's issues, contributing instead to enriching public discourse and offering proposals related to development, sovereignty, and innovation. This reinforces the contribution of engineering competencies to the national developmental project.

Moreover, despite the challenging international and national context marked by recurring climate and economic crises, rising inflation, and global market fluctuations, the government has continued to implement structural reforms and major projects in accordance with royal directives, particularly in social protection, water and food security, energy transition, and infrastructure development.

In discussing future challenges, Bouari emphasized the importance of keeping pace with the technological revolution led by artificial intelligence, highlighting the necessity of preparing a new generation of engineers skilled in future technologies, capable of innovation, entrepreneurship, and contributing to sustainable territorial development. He called for the establishment of a culture of merit and competence, viewing it as a fundamental gateway to empowering Moroccan talents to thrive both domestically and internationally through enhancing the training system, bolstering scientific research, and encouraging creative initiatives.

Bouari reaffirmed that building a "Rising Morocco" relies on investing in human capital and trusting in youth and national competencies. He stressed the ongoing commitment of the assembly to support major national projects and provide proposals that align with the transformations occurring in the kingdom, addressing the aspirations of citizens and enhancing Morocco's position among emerging economies.
