Profile of a Fugitive: Sellam Agarroum
Sellam Agarroum, a 35-year-old fugitive of Dutch-Moroccan descent, has recently made headlines as he has been included in Europol's prestigious list of Europe's most wanted criminals. This alarming development comes alongside stern warnings from authorities who have classified him as armed and dangerous. Notably, Agarroum still has over 1,800 days remaining in his prison sentence, reflecting the severity of his criminal activities.
Originating from Amsterdam, Agarroum has been evading capture by law enforcement for an extended period. Reports from Dutch media indicate that he has been convicted of multiple serious offenses, specifically two high-profile armed robberies. His criminal history is particularly notorious, beginning with a violent incident in 2011 when he was convicted of robbing a jewelry store. During this robbery, the store owner suffered a severe head injury inflicted by a firearm, and gunfire was exchanged with staff members as jewelry was stolen from the premises.
Criminal Activities and Legal Consequences
Agarroum's criminal exploits did not cease with the jewelry store heist; he was later implicated in another armed robbery in November 2019, this time in Zandvoort. This robbery targeted a cash courier from Holland Casino, where Agarroum's role was that of a getaway driver and lookout. Eyewitness accounts reveal that during this audacious attack, one of Agarroum's accomplices threatened the courier with a firearm. In a desperate attempt to protect himself, the courier threw cash, which was wrapped in plastic packaging, to the ground. Ultimately, this robbery yielded a staggering €80,000, which the perpetrators successfully escaped with.
Despite Agarroum's denials regarding his involvement in the Zandvoort robbery, the prosecution was able to secure a conviction against him due to compelling evidence, including identification from two police officers present at the scene. Prior to his current fugitive status, Agarroum had already made a name for himself on Amsterdam’s infamous “Top 600” list of repeat offenders. He had previously been sentenced to eight years in prison for the jewelry store robbery but was released early. Alarmingly, he committed the subsequent robbery while still on probation, indicating a blatant disregard for the law and judicial authority.
