Exciting Developments in Morocco's High-Speed Train Project

Major Advancements in the High-Speed Rail Link between Marrakech and Agadir

During a recent session in the House of Representatives, Morocco's Minister of Transport and Logistics, Abdel Samad Guioh, revealed significant updates regarding the high-speed train project that will connect Marrakech and Agadir. He confirmed that all technical and engineering studies related to this monumental project have been successfully completed. The total estimated cost for this ambitious endeavor stands at approximately 55 billion dirhams. Guioh emphasized that the execution of this rail line will require substantial international support, particularly in terms of funding and technical expertise, which the ministry is currently seeking in collaboration with the National Office of Railways.

The minister elaborated on the complexities of the route, which traverses the High Atlas Mountains, making the project particularly challenging from an engineering standpoint. A significant portion of the construction efforts will be dedicated to the development of tunnels and bridges, given the difficult terrain that the project must navigate.

As for the current progress of the construction, Guioh reported that the completion rate for the line connecting Kenitra to Marrakech has reached about 30%. He expressed confidence that the current pace of work aligns well with the established timeline. The high-speed train's arrival in Marrakech is anticipated by September 2029. This project is expected to significantly reduce travel times between various cities and major corridors within the kingdom, enhancing connectivity across the region.

Additionally, the minister highlighted that the new design of the Al Boraq train will facilitate rapid connections between Casablanca and Rabat, as well as provide links to Mohammed V Airport and the Grand Stadium in Ben Slimane, ultimately reaching Marrakech. This initiative is part of a broader vision aimed at developing a modern transportation network in Morocco.
