First Giant Bulk Carrier Arrives at Casablanca Port
The port of Casablanca has recently welcomed its first large-capacity bulk carrier, a 200-meter ship chartered by Cosumar, carrying nearly 55,000 tons of raw sugar. This significant development was made possible by the new water depth of 12 meters at Marsa Maroc's multipurpose terminal, following the completion of dredging work at the docks. According to the private port operator, the 230 meters of rehabilitated quay now accommodate vessels weighing close to 60,000 tons.
Marsa Maroc plans to extend this quay to 530 meters by 2028, aiming for a total capacity that will exceed 8 million tons at this terminal, a substantial increase from the current capacity of approximately 4 million tons, nearly doubling in less than three years. For Cosumar, this transition is pivotal as chartering larger vessels substantially reduces transportation costs per ton. However, it remains to be seen if this increase in capacity will benefit sectors beyond sugar, or if it will primarily serve a select group of already established major importers.
AXA Crédit Maroc Transforms into Stellantis Salaf Maroc
AXA Crédit Maroc has officially rebranded as Stellantis Salaf Maroc following a majority acquisition completed in September 2025 by Stellantis' financial division. The new subsidiary will offer financing solutions tailored to the automaker's brands while maintaining its personal loan services. Lionel Piquer has been appointed as the General Manager of Stellantis Salaf Maroc, functioning under the supervision of Andrea Faina, who oversees Stellantis Financial Services across Africa, China, and the Middle East. All previously signed contracts will remain unchanged for existing clients.
This integration is part of Stellantis' broader strategy to enhance its presence in Morocco across various sectors, including industry, commerce, and services. The automaker's approach extends beyond mere vehicle sales, as it aims to secure the entire customer journey, from financing through to maintenance.
