The security authorities in Marrakech have refuted claims circulating about an incident involving a German tourist who allegedly protested after being charged €200 for a pizza meal in the city. A video that has surfaced online, accompanied by commentary, condemned the actions of a restaurant owner who reportedly expelled the foreign tourist after subjecting her to fraud by demanding an exorbitant amount for a pizza.
In response to the circulating video, Marrakech security officials revealed that an initial investigation found no record of a report or complaint regarding the details presented in the footage. Subsequently, further inquiries were initiated, leading to the identification of the restaurant owner and gathering his testimony regarding the incident.
The investigation clarified that the occurrence took place more than a week prior to the Eid al-Adha celebrations. It was established that the restaurant owner featured in the video was actually trying to prevent the foreign tourist from entering his establishment due to her visibly intoxicated state and erratic behavior. This was in stark contrast to the misleading narrative that circulated regarding a significant charge for a meal.
Additionally, field investigations conducted at the location revealed that the establishment owned by the individual in question does not even serve the pizza that was mentioned in the comments, which claimed that it had been offered to the foreigner at an inflated price.
