Marrakech Set to Host the Sixth National Amateur Theatre Festival
The vibrant city of Marrakech is gearing up to host the sixth edition of the National Amateur Theatre Festival from June 23 to June 27, 2026. This annual event serves as a significant platform that showcases the dynamic nature of amateur theatre in Morocco, reflecting the creative spirit and cultural richness of the region.
The festival will officially kick off on June 23 with an opening ceremony at the historic Theatre of Midaan, marking the beginning of a series of performances and competitions that will fill the program of this cultural spectacle. This year, the competing performances will take place at the Daoudiat Cultural Center over three days, from June 24 to June 26. Participants will vie for six major awards, including those for best writing, direction, set design, along with separate accolades for male and female acting, in addition to the award for Best Theatre Production.
Moreover, this festival will honor prominent figures in Moroccan theatre, including the talented artists Amal Tammar and Shafik Bassbis, in recognition of their contributions and enduring impact on the theatrical landscape of Morocco. In addition to the competitive performances, the organizers are placing a strong emphasis on the educational aspect of the festival by programming specialized workshops and a "master class" session aimed at sharing knowledge and enhancing the skills of participants and theatre enthusiasts.
The festival will culminate in a celebratory event on June 27 at the historic Bahia Palace, where the results of the competition will be announced, and awards will be distributed. This closing ceremony will be a festive occasion that celebrates theatre as a space for creativity, dialogue, and cultural exchange.
