Moroccan Employers Call for Special Holiday for Private Sector Workers

Moroccan Employers Advocate for Extended Holiday

The General Confederation of Moroccan Enterprises (CGEM) has issued a call for private sector companies to grant their employees an "extraordinary holiday" on Friday, May 29, 2026, coinciding with the third day of the Eid al-Adha celebrations for the year 1447 AH. In a message addressed to its members, shared with the online publication Hespress, Mehdi Tazi, the president of the CGEM, emphasized that this request is made "within reasonable limits and considering the flexibility that each business can accommodate." This initiative aligns with the government's decision to declare a public holiday for all public administrations and local communities on the same date.

It is noteworthy that Eid al-Adha is set to be celebrated in Morocco on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, which corresponds to the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, 1447 AH. The CGEM's initiative aims to allow private sector employees to enjoy an extended weekend, similar to their public sector counterparts, enabling them to spend this significant religious and social occasion with their families in optimal conditions.

Additionally, the Moroccan Banking Association has also announced that commercial banks will suspend operations on Friday, May 29, further supporting the call for a unified holiday across sectors.
