Morocco and Latin America-Caribbean Parliaments Forge New Cooperation Forum

Strengthening Ties Through Parliamentary Collaboration

In a significant move towards enhancing diplomatic relations, Morocco's House of Councillors has joined forces with parliamentary unions from Latin America and the Caribbean to establish a permanent cooperation forum. This initiative, formalized through a memorandum of understanding signed in Marrakech, aims to bolster interregional collaboration by facilitating dialogue on critical issues of mutual interest.

The signing event took place alongside the 4th Marrakech Parliamentary Economic Forum, which occurred on June 19-20, 2026, and was attended by prominent parliamentary and economic leaders from the Euro-Mediterranean and Gulf regions. This forum serves as a vital platform for discussing pressing challenges that affect these interconnected areas.

Key Objectives and Areas of Focus

The newly established Morocco–Latin America and Caribbean parliamentary forum aspires to create a structured dialogue that addresses various economic, social, and developmental issues. It will focus on collaborative efforts to tackle shared challenges such as migration, climate change, and terrorism, which have become increasingly relevant in today's global landscape. Furthermore, the forum will promote the exchange of legislative expertise and facilitate improved trade and investment flows between Morocco and its Latin American and Caribbean partners.

Among the legislative bodies involved in this initiative are the Latin American Parliament (Parlatino), the Parliament of Mercosur (Parlasur), the Central American Parliament (Parlacen), and the Forum of Presidents of Legislative Powers of Central America and the Caribbean Basin (FOPREL). Together, these entities will work towards fostering cooperation in development policies and creating unified responses to global challenges, ultimately aiming for greater economic integration between the regions.

Through this cooperative effort, Morocco and its Latin American and Caribbean counterparts are set to make strides in enhancing regional stability and resilience, paving the way for a future characterized by strong partnerships and mutual growth.
