Royal Air Maroc Unveils New Direct Route to Los Angeles
Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has officially launched its direct flight service connecting Casablanca to Los Angeles, marking a significant addition to its long-haul offerings. The inaugural flight departed from Mohammed V Airport at 4:00 AM, establishing a twelve-hour route that the national airline describes as a _"historic milestone for Royal Air Maroc and for air connectivity across the African continent"_. This new service aims to enhance Morocco's international presence and promote deeper ties with the United States, particularly in a year that commemorates two and a half centuries of friendship between the two nations.
The CEO of Royal Air Maroc, Hamid Addou, emphasizes that this new route not only brings Morocco closer to the American West Coast but also reinforces the country's commitment to elevate its standing on the global stage. He remarked that _"by connecting Morocco to the West Coast of America, we reaffirm our role and commitment to showcasing Morocco internationally,"_ further highlighting the significance of the Moroccan national football team's participation in the world's largest football competition this year.
Weekly Service and Enhanced Connectivity
Royal Air Maroc plans to operate three flights weekly on this new route, with departures from Casablanca scheduled for Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays at 4:00 AM, arriving in Los Angeles at 8:20 AM local time. Return flights will leave California at 10:20 AM and reach Casablanca the following day at 5:25 AM. The airline will utilize large, long-haul aircraft for this service, ensuring modern amenities, comfortable seating suited for the lengthy flight, attentive onboard service, and tailored entertainment options for a seamless intercontinental journey.
This new connection enhances Royal Air Maroc's North American network, which already includes direct flights to New York, Washington, Miami, Montreal, and Toronto. With the addition of Los Angeles, Morocco gains a strategic access point to the American Pacific Coast, facilitating more direct links to significant tourist, economic, and diaspora hubs in the Western United States.
Royal Air Maroc has integrated this route into its strategic plan established with the government in July 2023, aiming to expand long-haul services and solidify Casablanca's role as a key aviation hub connecting Africa, Europe, and the Americas. The new service targets various demographics, including Moroccan and African diaspora members, American tourists, business travelers, and supporters traveling to the United States for major global football events. The airline views this route as a response to a growing demand for intercontinental mobility.
The introduction of the Los Angeles route complements RAM's recent expansions to destinations such as Beijing, São Paulo, and Saint Petersburg, positioning Casablanca as a more significant player in global travel flows with its rare direct link between Africa and the American Pacific Coast.
