In a significant security operation, the Royal Gendarmerie from the Chechaouen division successfully thwarted a series of assaults targeting students who were on their way to take the baccalaureate exams in the commune of Lamzoudia. This operation also led to the apprehension of one suspect following a police chase that extended to the commune of Sidi Mokhtar.
The incident unfolded on the morning of Saturday, June 6, when the Royal Gendarmerie was securing the transfer and delivery of baccalaureate exam papers to the relevant educational institution. During this operation, they spotted two individuals on a motorcycle who were obstructing students heading to their examination centers.
According to available information, the suspects were armed with a large knife, which they used to threaten several students, robbing them of their mobile phones and cash. A total of five students fell victim to these criminal acts.
As soon as the Royal Gendarmerie witnessed these criminal acts, they intervened immediately and began to pursue the suspects, who initially managed to flee. However, thorough investigations and field research enabled the authorities to track their movements to the Sidi Mokhtar area.
The security operation conducted on the night of Sunday, June 7, 2026, in coordination with the Chechaouen and Sidi Mokhtar Gendarmeries, resulted in the arrest of one of the suspects, while his accomplice remains at large.
During the arrest, the detained individual, who was under the influence of narcotic pills, attempted to harm himself by cutting his wrist. This necessitated his urgent transfer to the provincial hospital in Chechaouen and later to the university hospital in Marrakech for necessary medical treatment under strict security supervision.
Once his health stabilized, he was placed under provisional detention as per the orders of the public prosecutor at the appellate court in Marrakech, pending the completion of investigations and his subsequent appearance before the judiciary.
Initial investigations revealed that both the detained individual and his fugitive accomplice are suspected of involvement in numerous violent thefts and motorcycle thefts in various regions of the Chechaouen province. According to informed sources, the detained suspect admitted to committing several criminal acts alongside his accomplice.
