Ayoube Amaimouni: From Oberliga to World Cup Stardom with Eintracht Frankfurt

A Remarkable Journey from Local Football to the World Stage

Ayoube Amaimouni, a 21-year-old rising star, began his football journey in the Oberliga Westfalen, playing for the fifth-tier club Erkenschwick. His early opponents included teams like Brünninghausen, Sprockhövel, and Ennepetal. Fast forward just over two years, and this talented winger is not only making waves in the Bundesliga with Eintracht Frankfurt but has also earned a spot on Morocco's national team for the World Cup—a truly inspiring football fairy tale.

For Amaimouni, being named in the preliminary squad was already a significant achievement, especially considering he had never represented Morocco at any level before, not even in youth competitions. On Tuesday, national coach Mohamed Ouahbi announced his final roster for the World Cup, and Amaimouni was thrilled to secure one of the 26 coveted spots. This selection marks the pinnacle of his rapid ascent in the sport. He expressed his excitement on Instagram, stating, "A childhood dream is coming true. I will give everything for this jersey."

Until January, Amaimouni was playing for the reserve team of TSG Hoffenheim in the third division. Eintracht Frankfurt initially planned to sign him this summer on a free transfer but decided to act sooner, securing him in the winter for a modest fee of around 200,000 euros. His impressive second half of the season included two goals, three assists, and significant playing time as a starter. Such performances were unexpected, even for Amaimouni himself, who never anticipated he would also be heading to the World Cup.

In the upcoming tournament, Morocco will compete in Group C against formidable teams such as Scotland, Haiti, and the football giant Brazil. This means Amaimouni will have the chance to face his idol, Neymar, in what promises to be an exciting match. "He is a street footballer and, like me, enjoys trying new things," Amaimouni shared in a recent interview. Their first personal encounter will take place in the group opener on June 14, in front of over 82,000 fans in New York—an event that feels nothing short of magical. Indeed, everything seems to be unfolding beautifully for the dynamic winger of Eintracht Frankfurt.
