The prestigious Hassan II Award for Traditional Equestrian Arts, also known as Tbourida, culminated on June 21, 2026, with an impressive display of skill and tradition at Dar Assalam in Rabat. This year marked the 25th edition of the competition, which ran from June 15 to 21, drawing participants from across the country. The event was held under the patronage of King Mohammed VI, emphasizing the cultural significance of Tbourida as a vital aspect of Morocco's rich heritage.

In a thrilling conclusion, the team led by Captain Mohamed Amine Talhouni from the Casablanca-Settat region claimed the coveted title, outperforming the runner-up team led by Captain Abdelhadi Haloua from the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, who took home the silver medal. The bronze medal was awarded to the team led by Captain Mehdi Anjar from the Marrakech-Safi region, showcasing the competitive spirit and remarkable talent present in this traditional equestrian discipline.

Recognizing Young Talent and Rewards

The young riders' category also saw fierce competition, with the Casablanca-Settat team under Captain Badr Zreiz winning the gold medal, followed closely by the Marrakech-Safi team led by Captain Badr El Khaidi in second place, and the team from Guelmim-Oued Noun securing third place. The awards for the adult category were substantial, with the champion receiving a prize of 500,000 dirhams, while the runner-up and bronze medalist were awarded 300,000 and 200,000 dirhams, respectively. Additionally, the fourth to sixth places received prizes ranging from 60,000 to 45,000 dirhams, and teams ranked from 11th to 18th received 30,000 dirhams each, highlighting the event's commitment to rewarding excellence.

The competition involved 18 teams competing over four days, with ten teams advancing to the finals. The young riders' segment featured six teams representing various regions, including Rabat-Salé-Kénitra, the East, and Marrakech-Safi, further emphasizing the nationwide participation and enthusiasm for Tbourida.

Judging criteria focused on the synchronization of movements among the riders, the unity of their attire and actions, and the overall presentation of both horse and rider. The Royal Moroccan Equestrian Federation oversaw the event, ensuring a high standard of competition and adherence to the traditions of Tbourida.

The 24th edition of this esteemed event was won by Captain Rashid Sekkas from the Casablanca-Settat region, demonstrating the rich history and ongoing legacy of this traditional sport. The Hassan II Award for Tbourida not only highlights Morocco's equestrian skills but also fosters a deeper appreciation for the cultural elements that define the nation.
