Celta Vigo Moves Swiftly to Secure Azzedine Ounahi Amid Transfer Market Buzz

Celta Vigo is intensifying its efforts in the transfer market as the club aims to finalize the signing of Moroccan midfielder Azzedine Ounahi. This anticipated transaction hinges on the completion of a significant sale, driven by the pressing timeline of the upcoming World Cup.

Having already made his mark as a starter in the opening match of the World Cup against Brazil, Azzedine Ounahi is drawing considerable attention from various clubs. His performance on this international stage has prompted Celta Vigo's management to expedite his transfer, hoping to secure him before other potential suitors emerge, especially if he continues to showcase the impressive form he displayed during the 2022 season. According to the media outlet AS, Ounahi enjoyed a successful first season in La Liga with Girona, where he participated in 24 matches, netted five goals, and provided three assists, despite his team's relegation to the second division.

However, the arrival of the 26-year-old midfielder remains contingent upon a significant influx of funds. The Galician club must urgently balance its financial accounts before the June 30 deadline. This financial maneuverability largely depends on the potential transfer of Ilaix Moriba, who has garnered interest from Aston Villa, reportedly willing to pay €20 million. Such funds would facilitate the activation of Ounahi's release clause, which has been halved to €10 million following Girona's relegation.

Tactically, Azzedine Ounahi's highly technical profile contrasts sharply with Moriba's physical prowess. Coach Claudio Giráldez is considering integrating Ounahi into his 3-4-3 system, positioning him as an attacking midfielder near the front line. Additionally, Ounahi is capable of playing on the left flank, where his dribbling abilities could fill the gap left by Bryan Zaragoza's loan termination last January, thereby providing a valuable option for team dynamics alongside Williot Swedberg and Hugo Álvarez.
