Cultural Heritage Conference in Marrakech: A Collaborative Approach to Preservation

The Spanish Cultural Institute, Cervantes, is set to host an intellectual meeting on the evening of Tuesday, June 16, at 7 PM in Marrakech, focusing on the theme of "Heritage and Protection: Shared Experiences between Spain and Morocco." This event is organized in partnership with the Heritage Association and aims to enhance dialogue and exchange of expertise regarding the preservation and protection of cultural heritage against risks and natural disasters.

This conference seeks to shed light on the challenges associated with protecting historical and cultural heritage in times of crisis and emergencies. By showcasing both Moroccan and Spanish experiences, it will discuss legal frameworks and practical mechanisms employed to safeguard cultural legacies, while also emphasizing the significance of international cooperation in this vital area.

Among the distinguished speakers is María López Frias, a state lawyer from the Spanish Ministry of Culture specializing in cultural heritage issues. She will present insights into the Spanish legal system concerning the protection of historical heritage and the intervention mechanisms in emergencies caused by earthquakes, floods, and other natural disasters, along with the current challenges facing heritage conservation policies.

Additionally, architect and researcher Karim Rouissi will contribute to the discussion by offering an analysis of the state of Moroccan heritage based on his professional and associative experiences. As a member of the Moroccan branch of the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) and the president of the "Kazaimemoire" Association, Rouissi will highlight the stakes of preserving and enhancing architectural and urban heritage in Morocco, as well as prospects for its development.

The architectural seminar will be moderated by Salma Zarhouni, the Secretary-General of the Heritage Association, who will manage the discussion and coordinate interactions between the speakers and attendees. This event is anticipated to serve as a platform for exchanging experiences and knowledge among specialists and enthusiasts in the field of heritage, particularly in light of the increasing challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters to historical sites and cultural landmarks.

The public is invited to participate in this cultural appointment, with free admission subject to seat availability.
