Royal Air Maroc Set to Resume Flights to Rio de Janeiro
Royal Air Maroc is making a significant comeback by reintroducing flights to the vibrant city of Rio de Janeiro. After a six-year hiatus due to the pandemic, the airline is thrilled to announce plans to resume service from the Galeão International Airport to Casablanca, Morocco, by the end of next year. Initially, this service will operate with a minimal schedule of one flight per week. This step is part of a larger strategy by the airline, which is also gearing up for the 2030 FIFA World Cup, to be co-hosted by six countries, including Morocco itself.
The announcement comes approximately a year and a half after Royal Air Maroc resumed operations to Guarulhos International Airport in São Paulo, where it currently operates four weekly flights to Casablanca. Additionally, the city of Rio is actively seeking to enhance international connectivity at Galeão, negotiating with various airlines, including Aeromexico, Ethiopian Airlines, Turkish Airlines, and a Chinese carrier.
New Flight Developments in São Paulo
Meanwhile, Royal Air Maroc has exciting news for São Paulo travelers as well. The airline has confirmed that it will increase its weekly flights from four to five by the end of this year. Currently, the flight schedule is as follows: departing from Casablanca at 16:50 and arriving in São Paulo at 22:30 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, while the return flights leave São Paulo at 00:30 and land in Casablanca at 13:25 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The airline reported that last year, this route served approximately 80,000 passengers, achieving an impressive 84% average occupancy rate and 98% operational punctuality. For 2024, Royal Air Maroc anticipates a 30% increase in seat availability and an 80% rise in passenger volume.
All flights between São Paulo and Casablanca are operated using the modern Boeing 787-9, which accommodates between 302 and 320 passengers in a mix of business and economy class. Presently, São Paulo remains the only destination served by Royal Air Maroc in all of Latin America, with operations having resumed in December 2024 and continuing to expand.
For travelers keen on exploring Morocco, Royal Air Maroc offers a unique stopover option, allowing passengers flying from São Paulo to include a visit to Morocco on their international ticket. In economy class, travelers can stay in Morocco for up to seven days, while those in business class can extend their stay to fourteen days, exploring renowned sites like Casablanca, the Sahara, Marrakech, and Fez. However, it is important to note that accommodation, meals, and local transport during the stopover are the responsibility of the traveler. From Casablanca, Royal Air Maroc connects to over 100 destinations across 46 countries in Africa, Europe, Asia, and North America, with passengers having layovers of more than eight hours entitled to complimentary accommodation.
