Marrakech Authorities Respond to Viral Video of Tourist Incident
The Marrakech Security Directorate swiftly and seriously addressed a viral video circulating on social media on Sunday, June 14, which depicted a restaurant owner expelling a foreign tourist. The video was accompanied by claims that the tourist had been scammed by the restaurant owner, who allegedly charged her an exorbitant price for a pizza.
Upon conducting an initial investigation, it became evident that the Moroccan National Police had not received any reports or complaints related to the claims made in the video. Subsequently, a thorough inquiry was launched, which led to identifying the restaurant owner and gathering his account of the incident.
The findings revealed that the incident occurred over a week prior to Eid al-Adha and that the restaurant owner was attempting to prevent the foreign tourist from entering his establishment due to her evident intoxication and erratic behavior. Contrary to the claims circulating online, there was no connection between the incident and any overpriced food service offered to the tourist.
Further on-site investigations confirmed that the restaurant in question does not even serve pizza, which was erroneously mentioned in the comments surrounding the video. This clarification is crucial in dispelling the misinformation that had spread widely on social media.
