Concerns Arise Over Missing Luggage for Moroccan Pilgrims
The Moroccan Office for Pilgrims Affairs, which operates under the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, has raised critical concerns regarding the non-arrival of luggage for Moroccan pilgrims returning from Jeddah International Airport to Fès–Saïs Airport. In a formal communication addressed to the Undersecretary for Hajj and Umrah International Cooperation, they highlighted the distressing situation that unfolded during a recent flight carrying a group of Moroccan pilgrims.
According to the correspondence, a copy of which was obtained by Hespress, the airline responsible for handling the pilgrims' luggage was AIR GATE, tasked with the weighing and transportation of bags for passengers on flight SV5593. This flight departed from Jeddah at 3:15 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2026, en route to Fès–Saïs.
Upon arrival at their destination, the pilgrims proceeded to the luggage claim area after completing the customary security procedures, only to be met with the shocking realization that none of their bags had arrived. This unexpected situation led to widespread confusion and concern among the travelers regarding the fate of their belongings.
Urgent Action Requested to Address Luggage Crisis
In light of these events, the head of the Moroccan Office for Pilgrim Affairs has urged immediate directives be issued to relevant authorities to expedite the review of the company responsible for luggage handling, as well as the appropriate authorities at Jeddah Airport and Saudi Airlines. The correspondence emphasized the need to clarify the whereabouts of the pilgrims' luggage, investigate the underlying reasons for its failure to be transported on their flight, and hold accountable those responsible for this oversight.
As reported, pilgrims were informed that while their luggage did not arrive in Fès, a portion of it had reached Casablanca the previous Saturday, with the remainder expected to arrive the following Sunday. They also received notifications via a messaging app indicating that their bags would be shipped to Fès for collection.
Despite multiple attempts to gather more official information on the matter, Hespress was unable to obtain further details from the head of the Moroccan Pilgrims Office as of yesterday.
This incident has caused a significant degree of dissatisfaction and frustration among the affected pilgrims, who are left anxiously awaiting the resolution of their luggage issue.
