Enhancing Economic Relations Between Panama and Morocco
In a significant step towards fostering economic cooperation, Panama and Morocco have agreed to enhance their bilateral partnership, focusing on trade, tourism, and renewable energy. This initiative aims to boost visibility and create strategic alliances between businesses and operators from both countries. During recent discussions held from May 21 to 23, Omar Hejira, Morocco's Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, met with Carlos A. Hoyos, Panama's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, to explore avenues for collaboration. The conversations were centered on the implementation of the 2025-2027 Bilateral Cooperation Roadmap, which was adopted in June 2025.
The delegations identified key sectors for potential collaboration, including agriculture, fertilizers, renewable energy, tourism, logistics, connectivity, innovation, and professional training. Notably, Panama's tourism sector has experienced a remarkable growth rate of 17.3% in the first quarter of the year compared to the same period last year, highlighting the country's growing appeal as a travel destination.
Both nations have committed to organizing reciprocal trade missions and business-to-business (B2B) meetings, encouraging private sector engagement. They also plan to promote participation in bilateral trade fairs and exhibitions, which will serve as platforms for showcasing their respective industries and forging lasting partnerships. Additionally, efforts will be made to connect logistics and industrial zone administrators from both Panama and Morocco to develop long-term cooperation agreements.
To ensure the effective implementation of these commitments, the two countries will establish a joint working group tasked with operational follow-up and the identification of priority commercial opportunities. This collaborative approach is set to pave the way for a robust and mutually beneficial economic relationship between Panama and Morocco, fostering growth and innovation in both regions.
