Detention of a Syrian Citizen for Migrant Smuggling
A Syrian citizen has been apprehended and will remain in custody for a period of up to 72 hours for his involvement in facilitating the illegal stay and transit of three Moroccan nationals within Bulgaria, as stated by the Burgas Regional Prosecution Office on Tuesday. The investigation revealed alarming details about the circumstances surrounding the incident, highlighting the dangerous nature of the smuggling operation.
According to the authorities, two of the Moroccan migrants were discovered concealed in the trunk of a vehicle, while the third was found seated in the passenger compartment. The suspect, who lacked a valid driving license, exhibited reckless driving behavior that culminated in a traffic accident. Following the collision, he fled the scene after disregarding a police signal to stop, prompting a swift response from law enforcement.
The man was ultimately located and arrested in Plovdiv, a city in South Central Bulgaria, after he had traveled there by train from Burgas. In light of the circumstances, the Burgas Regional Prosecution Office is anticipated to file a request for his permanent detention, emphasizing the seriousness of the accusations against him.
