The Ongoing Trial of Abdelali Hamidine Postponed to October in the Ayat Jid Case

Fes Court Delays Hearing in the Ayat Jid Murder Case

On May 25, 2026, the Appeals Chamber at the Fes Court postponed the trial of Abdelali Hamidine, a prominent member of the Justice and Development Party, concerning the murder of leftist student Mohammed Benissa Ayat Jid, an incident dating back to 1993. The new hearing is scheduled for October 15, 2026. This delay was granted following a request from Hamidine's defense team, which sought additional time to prepare their case. Furthermore, the absence of lawyer Mohammed Chahbi from today's session due to health issues contributed to the court's decision to postpone.

Earlier, the primary criminal chamber had sentenced Hamidine to three years in prison after reclassifying the charges against him. Initially charged with intentional homicide, the court changed the charge to 'participation in violence leading to death without intent to kill,' reflecting a significant shift in the legal framing of the case.

The tragic events of this case occurred on February 25, 1993, when student Mohammed Benissa Ayat Jid and his colleague, El Khmar Hadidi, suffered a violent physical attack near the industrial neighborhood of Sidi Ibrahim in Fes. Mohammed succumbed to severe head injuries just days later, as documented in medical reports at the time.
