Celebration of Eid al-Adha in Rabat
On Wednesday, May 27, 2026, His Majesty King Mohammed VI, accompanied by Crown Prince Moulay Hassan, Prince Moulay Rachid, and Prince Moulay Ahmed, performed the Eid al-Adha prayer at the Mosque of the People of Fes in the cherished open space of the Mechouar in Rabat, coinciding with the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah in the Islamic calendar. A grand procession marked His Majesty's journey from the royal palace to the mosque, where a large crowd of citizens had gathered to offer their congratulations and share in the joy of this significant occasion.
Upon arrival at the mosque, the King was greeted with a royal salute from a contingent of the royal guard, symbolizing the respect and honor afforded to His Majesty during this important religious observance. Following the prayer, the sermon delivered by the imam highlighted the profound significance of this revered day, which concludes the initial ten days of Dhu al-Hijjah, a period that holds great spiritual value in Islam. The sermon recounted the story of the Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) and his son Ismail (Ishmael), emphasizing the values of sacrifice, altruism, and generosity that are central to the celebration of Eid al-Adha.
In a heartfelt concluding prayer, the imam and the congregation beseeched Allah to grant victory to the King, to bless him with a successful reign alongside his heir, Crown Prince Moulay Hassan, and to protect all members of the royal family. The congregation also raised their hands in supplication for the souls of the late Kings Mohammed V and Hassan II, asking for mercy and honor upon their resting places.
After the prayers, the King participated in the traditional act of slaughtering the sacrificial animal, adhering to the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad. As the joyous occasion unfolded, ceremonial cannon fire heralded the festive atmosphere of Eid. The mosque's imam carried out the slaughter of the second sacrificial animal, following the King’s example.
Later, at the royal palace, King Mohammed VI graciously received congratulations from Crown Prince Moulay Hassan and Prince Moulay Rachid, along with the Prime Minister, the heads of both chambers of Parliament, and other prominent figures from civil and military sectors, further underscoring the unity and joy shared during this auspicious celebration.
