Strategic Candidate Selection for Upcoming Legislative Elections
On Friday, the National Rally of Independents (RNI) officially unveiled its candidate lists for the 2026 legislative elections during a press conference held in Rabat. This announcement highlighted the party's strategy of blending political experience with fresh perspectives, reflecting an ongoing commitment to modernization and innovation within its ranks.
Party leader Mohamed Chouki emphasized that the new electoral lists feature a commendable inclusion of four female candidates in local constituencies and twelve young members from the party's youth wing, marking a significant 36% renewal rate among candidates. This demographic representation underscores the RNI's dedication to empowering youth and women, providing opportunities for new talents to actively participate in public affairs and governance.
Chouki further elaborated that the chosen candidates embody a combination of practical experience and managerial competence, asserting the party's readiness to engage in the upcoming electoral challenges across various constituencies. The candidate lists for the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, for instance, include notable names such as Aladdin Al-Bahrawi from Rabat Shalla and Taha Al-Hammani from Rabat Al-Muhit.
In the Casablanca-Settat region, the RNI has endorsed figures such as Mohamed Chabek for the Anfa district and Nour Eddine Rafiq in Nouacer, along with others across various localities. Moreover, the Fes-Meknes region features candidates like Zeina Shahim from Fes Sud and Ahmed Tahiri from Meknes, reflecting a diverse representation across the nation.
The Marrakech-Safi region also boasts prominent candidates, including Faisal Dardari in Gueliz and Minister of Investment Karim Zidan in Youssoufia. Similarly, the Souss-Massa region showcases Zeina Idahli in Agadir Ida Ou Tanane and other capable candidates, while the Guelmim-Oued Noun lists include Mustafa Baytas in Sidi Ifni and Nadia Bouaida in Guelmim.
In the southern provinces, the endorsements comprise candidates such as Mohamed Ayash in Laayoune and Sidi Ibrahim Khay in Boujdour, alongside several representatives from the Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima region, including Mohamed Simou in Larache and Rachid Talbi Alami in Tetouan.
With these endorsements, the National Rally of Independents has effectively entered the groundwork phase for the upcoming legislative elections, relying on a strategic mix of experienced political figures and new competencies that promise to strengthen its presence in the national political landscape.
